Happy Thursday! Today’s newsletter is another episode from The Happiness Lab. Dr. Laurie Santos discusses how the Stoics help us to “see setbacks as challenges; and insults as just noise.”

She speaks with Bill Irvine, professor of philosophy at Wright State University. I really enjoyed this episode because it focuses on a lot of the same concepts found here, in The Good Egg.

Here’s a quick synopsis of the episode from The Happiness Lab:

“There are things we can control and things we can’t control. There are also things we can influence a bit. Being able to accept this concept and only set our goals accordingly saves us a lot of anguish. It’s a key lesson of Stoicism.”

Episode 3: The Stoics

William B. Irvine

Irvine is the author of, The Stoic Challenge (a book I just bought), A Guide to the Good Life, and has written for the Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Salon, Time and the BBC.
