Happy Thursday Good Eggs! We continue to talk about building strength in our bodies and relieving stress. When referring to our minds, we call this “Mental Toughness”.

“Mental strength involves developing daily habits that build mental muscle. It also involves giving up bad habits that hold you back.” — Morin, 2017

The 4 C’s of Mental Toughness (Turner, 2017)

1. Control: you have self-esteem. You are comfortable with who you are and do not let other people’s opinions of you affect you.

2. Commitment: you set goals for yourself and know that you can achieve them. You are able to establish effective habits and routines to get you to where you want to be.

3. Challenge: you are competitive and motivated to succeed. You see obstacles and challenges as opportunities for success.

4. Confidence: you know with your routines and habits, and who you are as a person, you can succeed and affect others positively. When you encounter setbacks, you know you will find a way to overcome them and move forward.

Ways to Improve Mental Strength

1. Replace negative thoughts with positive, more realistic thoughts

2. Control your emotions so your emotions don’t control you

3. Take positive action

(Morin, 2018)

You can do this! Try one of these Mental Strength tips and see what happens. For more on Mental Toughness, read this article, “How to Become Mentally Strong: 14 Strategies for Building Resistance.” Have a wonderful Thursday!
