Hello everyone! Gotta love a good Monday. It’s going to be an amazing week. Let’s start the day and week with a win….

Navy SEAL and Admiral William McRaven gave a commencement speech at the University of Texas at Austin in 2014. This is what stood out:

“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”

Growing up, mom always wanted you to do this, but you never saw the point. Well, here it is! By doing this, you have accomplished the first task of the day, which leads to the completion of more tasks throughout the day.

It’s the little things in life that matter.

Watch this incredibly inspiring speech by Navy SEAL and Admiral William McRaven:

So for Today’s Challenge:

Start each day this week by accomplishing something small. It could be making your bed everyday. If that is something you already do, or something you consider a huge task, pick something else!

I know a few people who do push-ups in the morning.

Drop and give me 50!!!!!

Nope. Start small…

Monday is one push-up, Tuesday is two push-ups, and so on. Pick something that can be done in the morning, so you can start your day with a win!

If you choose to do exercise in the morning, did you know…

Daily exercise can improve your mood and decrease feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression?

Interestingly, it doesn’t matter how intense your workout is! Exercise produces changes in the brain that regulate stress and anxiety. It can increase brain sensitivity for the hormones serotonin and norepinephrine which relieve feelings of depression.

It also increases the production of endorphins. And we all know what endorphins do thanks to Legally Blonde…

One study asked 26 men and women who exercise regularly to either continue exercising or stop exercising for two weeks. Those who stopped exercising experienced increases in negative mood.

Every decade that passes, adults lose up to 13% of dopamine receptors (one of the “feel good” 👍 chemicals in the brain) in the reward systems 🙌 — the part of the brain that helps you anticipate pleasure, feel motivated, and maintain hope. This loss leads to less enjoyment of everyday pleasures 😞

Good News!!! Daily exercise can prevent the decline! Studies have shown that active older adults have reward systems that resemble those of people who are decades younger.

I hope you found today’s newsletter to be informative and motivational. Try accomplishing a small task every morning. Thanks, as always for reading! Please complete today’s survey (2 questions!)
